Min reise til San Francisco startet om morgenen torsdag 11. august 2011, tre uker etter hatets myrderier på Utøya. Turen gikk via Gardermoen, Schiphol og St. Paul-flyplassen ved Minneapolis. Om kvelden samme torsdag gikk flyet inn for landing på SFO (San Francisco International Airport). Vi fløy da over San Francisco Bay om kvelden, med utsyn til et hav av lys rundt den mørke bukta. Rundt denne bukta bor nemlig 7 millioner innbyggere. Storbyområdet har en økonomi større en Thailands, større enn de Arabiske Emirater, dvs. om det hadde vært et land i seg selv.
